Wales - private guiding / Alpine training

Written by Leader, July 2015

Here's some great feedback from Jo, who has been honing her rock climbing skills this summer, with instructor, Mick, prior to heading out to the Alps in August.

Please identify any shortfalls in the course content:
There were none. Mick planned well, but remained flexible to my needs and ideas throughout.

Please identify any specific highlights of the course:
Mick had done his homework and knew what I had done previously and what I aspired to next. He coached me throughout the weekend to build my confidence in climbing in Alpine boots. I was still climbing at 7pm on the sunday evening and loving every minute of it! I left Wales feeling a lot more confident about my forthcoming trip to the Alps. We will know in August whether this confidence is well-founded when I go to Zermatt!

How would you grade the quality of the guiding/instruction overall?
(X) 5 (Excellent) ( ) 4 ( ) 3 ( ) 2 ( ) 1 (Unsatisfactory)

Additional comments:
Mick is an excellent instructor who is very good at judging a climber"s abilities and mindset, thereby bringing out the best in them. He also judged the weather conditions to make the most out of the weekend by choosing climbing locations carefully. I think his style is particularly adept at giving confidence to novice or nervous climbers. « | Next report »
