Medical Advice FAQs

I Have An Existing Medical Condition – Can I Still Go?

Usually, yes. After you have booked, you can complete a medical questionnaire and ask our doctor to review it, in consultation with your own GP or specialist. They will then advise you accordingly.

What Medical Support Is Provided on a Trek or Expedition?

All trips carry comprehensive medical kits plus a satellite communicator, where mobile coverage is not reliable. High-altitude trips carry oxygen for medical use and a Portable Altitude Chamber (PAC), unless an evacuation to lower altitude can be achieved reasonably easily by road (which is usual in Latin and South America, for example, where base camps are often close to trailheads, and local towns are nearby).

Leaders are trained in remote first aid. We retain doctors on call to give leaders advice in the field as required.

Will I Need Vaccinations?

Yes, very likely. Please check here.

How Will I Get Safe Drinking Water?

In developing regions, you should drink water that has been supplied by us or water that has been boiled beforehand (i.e. drink tea). Bottled water is usually reliable but not always (the market is too lucrative for it to be entirely trustworthy). Carbonated drinks are fine. Alcohol should be avoided when acclimatising.
