Alps update from Andy Owen
Andy Owen is guiding on the Alpine Techniques - Level 1 course in Arolla this week. Prior to that he spent a month in Chamonix guiding on the Alpine North Faces and Chamonix Climber courses.
"It's pretty snowy right now in Arolla, with the white stuff settling down to 2,100m, and with 3 days of precipitation the place looks like winter has started again.
Attached are a couple of photos from Chamonix Climber. During my month in Chamonix we managed to climb a route every single day, that`s 24 consecutive days of climbing, sometimes with poor weather, but having flexibility and fantastic lifts there is always somewhere to climb. Highlights were; having guys with wing-suits fly over us on the BrĂˆvent, a particularly fine classic off-width chimney with a bit of ice in the back on the Petit Capucin, dashing up the Contamine Grissolle on the Tacul in the afternoon with bad weather on the way, and a slightly engaging abseil decent. Romping up the Gervasutti Couloir on the Tour Ronde in perfect conditions and something in the region of 100 pitches of perfect rock an ice."
