Gasherbrum II update - team leave base camp

Whilst the Sherpas fixed to Camp 3, the team waited in Camp 1 since early last week waiting for better weather. This good weather did not materialise. They therefore decided to descend to base camp over the weekend and are now en route back to Skardu. Jamie Holding reported that the ropes were buried by avalanche below Camp 3 and that no teams had summited G2 so far this season. We'll update with more information once we have it, but we're thankful that the team cleared Camp 1 and safely descended to base camp. This year the Icefall was so time-consuming that it necessitated the use of an Interim Camp en route to Camp 1.
