Introduction
Less than two hours by train from Zurich, Engelberg is very easy to reach and has some great off piste ski runs, including the famous Laub (1,100m) and the Galtiberg (2,000m), which descend the north face of Titlis (3,238m). It's the place that Swiss off piste skiers head to for some searing off piste lines that cut through steep and imposing terrain. The town itself has a small, village feel to it and the locals are really friendly. There are some lovely little shops, great bakeries and plenty of ski shops too. Above the village the mountains are riven with glaciers and cliffs. This is not a mass tourist destination - the lift-accessed ski area is actually quite small and compact.
This week will be mostly lift-assisted, though we may do some walking/skating to access the best snow (skins and touring bindings not required).
The course is guided at a 1:6 ratio by an IFMGA Mountain Guide.
Course base: Engelberg

| Day 2-7: | On the move all week in Engelberg, searching out the best snow and back-country runs. |
Pre-Course Skiing Ability
Grade: 10B [ Ski Grading ]The course is designed for intermediate to advanced off piste skiers who are able to ski efficiently and in control on all snow types. A good level of fitness will allow you to enjoy the descents and improve your skiing further.
Avalanche Awareness and Risk
As soon as you head off piste, you need to be aware of avalanche risks, although some areas close to the resort may be controlled. Your coaches/guides are all well versed in avalanche avoidance and will educate you in safety matters and rescue procedures. However, by its very nature, off piste skiing is a risky business, not just because of avalanche danger, but also from the danger posed by hidden rocks, streams, small cliffs or tree branches, not to mention other skiers.- We are offering an Avalanche Course - AIARE Level 1 in Chamonix during December.
