Ecuador Volcanoes - 17 December 2002 to 5 January 2003

Written by Leader Dave Hanna, January 2003

After a cultural few days around Quito, all expedition members summited on Pinchincha and Pasochoa. We then moved to Cayambe where gale force winds repelled the summit bid. However, valuable acclimitisation and experience was gained, contributing significantly to success on Cotopaxi. John Ridgeon, Phil Pinchin, Olly Gandy, Richard Starling, Phil Hill, Keith Baldwin, Debra Wallace and Cameron Cowden all topped out in perfect conditions.

As usual, Chimborazo proved a tougher nut to crack, but Richard and Debra reached Ventmilla peak while John, Phil P and Olly dug into their reserves and pushed on to the Whymper summit.

All in all, a successful trip.« | »
