Aconcagua - 3 to 27 February 2002

Written by Leader Stuart McNeil, March 2002

This was a very enjoyable expedition with 5 team members and two guides reaching the summit in snow showers and no visibility after lunch. From camp 1 to camp 2, plastic boots were worn and from camp 2 upwards crampons were worn.

The scree slopes of the Canaleta were covered in excellent neve which was ideal for using crampons. Temperatures on summit day were cold but bearable. Four team members and one of our local Argentinian guides reached the summit from the Berlin huts in a credible 6.5 hours.« Previous report | »
