Cotopaxi - 28 November to 10 December 2001
Written by Leader Javier Herrera, December 2001In spite of having retreated 80 meters below the summit of Cayambe, because of strong winds, we were very happy at the end of the trip. This was an expedition that we arranged for David Goode. David has climbed with Jagged Globe 13 times before!
Javier and David reached the summit of Cotopaxi (5,897m) on the December 8th, 7 hours after leaving the refuge.
It was Davidīs second attempt on the mountain; his first attempt was in 1999, when the summit was impossible because of bad weather. The conditions this time were more than perfect!
David, who is now 69 years old, really climbs like someone who is in their 40s. His latest dream is to climb a 7,000m peak right after his 70 birthday in April!
