Summits on Chimborazo, Ecuador

Members of our Ecuador Volcanoes expedition travel home today, after what has been a very successful trip. Eight out of nine team members summited Chimborazo (6,310m) on Sunday. This is the first group that we've had climb the mountain via the new, more objectively safe route up the Stübel glacier (stonefall had become a problem on the standard route from the Carrel Hut). Chimborazo is the highest mountain in Ecuador and with its location along the equatorial bulge its summit is the farthest point from the centre of the earth.

Our next Ecuador Volcanoes expedition is in May 2017.
