The Dhaulagiri Circuit could equally be described as an expedition, with the crossing of French Col (5,300m) being notoriously weather prone and serious. As a company with its roots well and truly planted in mountaineering, it felt like a logical step to offer a demanding trek in Nepal, away from the crowds. On this trip there is also the option to climb Dhampus Peak (6,060m), from our highest campsite in the Hidden Valley. Under normal conditions the standard route on this mountain follows moderate snow slopes to the summit and can be attempted by those with ice axe and crampon experience.
Jagged Globe leader, Mungo Ross completed a reconnaissance of the Dhaulagiri Circuit in November 2008. This itinerary has been written by Mungo, based on his recent experience. Please note that the itinerary is now 21 days from the UK and not 23 days, as published in our 2009-10 brochure. The reason for this is that the road has been extended from Beni to Darbang, so it is now possible to drive to Darbang before continuing on foot. Experience RequiredThe Dhaulagiri Circuit is a tough trek, suitable for trekkers with previous experience of trekking at high altitude. The optional ascent of Dhamphus Peak (6,060m) requires basic ice axe and crampon skills.
