Ama Dablam despatches

(14th Nov)

[The upper SW ridge of Ama Dablam. The 2008 route climbs the rock to the right of the snow ridge, 5 kb]Our 2008 Ama Dablam team has arrived in the Khumbu Valley and are acclimatising in Namche Bazaar. The team intend to send regular updates on their progress. Each year, our Ama Dablam expedition arrives at the mountain as many teams are leaving. We prefer to climb late season, when the mountain is quieter, though conditions colder. Despite early reports this season of difficult snow conditions on the South West Ridge (the first summits were 30 October), the latest reports are that the route is now in good condition, but harder than in previous years. Camp 3 is sited away from the hanging serac (dablam) and the route itself climbs on the right hand side of the ridge, out of the firing line of the dablam, before accessing the summit slopes (see photo above). Our leaders this year are IFMGA Guides, Caroline Ogden and Marty Beare. We wish the team the very best of luck!

Transparent pricing

(5th Nov)

[A close up of the initial ridge between C1 and C2, 5 kb]The Full Price includes an international economy class flight from the UK, and all airline taxes that are payable with the ticket. Airline taxes include some airport handling fees, the UK Air Passenger Duty, fuel surcharges and foreign airport taxes collected through international ticketing.

We cannot include local taxes payable in cash on departure from overseas airports that do not form part of the original ticket price, as there is no reliable mechanism for us to pay them. These taxes are not added into the cost of your trip and so do not form part of the full-price for it.

Our full-price also includes all National Park Fees and Climbing Permits.

Others often omit park fees, permit fees (most notably those for Kilimanjaro) and airlines taxes from their prices, even though it is misleading and may be contrary to the Package Travel, Package Holidays and Package Tours Regulations 1992 to do so.

Our price less tax is shown, so you can compare our prices properly and fairly with those organisations that omit such taxes in their pricing.

Of the prices we show for each trip, you pay either the full-price (from the UK) or the land-only price (joining in the destination country).
