Our Pre-expedition and trek training weekends are designed to help you prepare fully for your trip. All team members are invited to the weekend, which takes place several weeks before the team departs. The meetings are held in Snowdonia at the Waterloo Hotel in Betws-y-Coed. They are run by members of the Jagged Globe office team and instructional staff, who have either led or will be your leader on the trip that you are booked on.

The meetings include a thorough briefing on all aspects of the expedition or trek and are an ideal opportunity to clear up any final questions you may have. The weekend covers personal equipment, fitness, health and acclimatisation and includes a discounted shopping trip to Cotswold Outdoor. A number of trips meet over one weekend, however, activities are tailored to your specific trek or expedition and will include a long walk and sometimes technical instruction. On the Saturday evening there is a slide-show and a group dinner.

The dates of the meetings are confirmed in your booking confirmation letter. The weekend costs £50, which includes instruction and dinner on the Saturday night at the Waterloo Hotel. You need to book your accommodation directly with the hotel, though you do not need to stay at the Waterloo and there are a number of options in Betws-y-Coed. Details regarding the venues and accommodation options in Betws-y-Coed are included in your Expedition or Trek Dossier, which we send to you once you have booked your trip.

We look forward to meeting you at the weekend.

Mountaineering Courses

Jagged globe offers a full range of climbing and mountaineering courses, most of which serve as excellent preparation for an expedition or trek. If you are considering any of our introductory level expeditions, our scrambling courses in Snowdonia, Introductory Winter Mountaineering courses or Alpine Introduction would all be particularly relevant. The instructors and Guides on these courses are also able to advise you on the type of training you need to do to be fit enough before your big trip, as they also regualrly lead overseas expeditions and treks for us.
